Larciano Country Oil.

The district ol Larciano stretches across the slopes of the mountain Albano and encopasses the communities of S.Rocco, Larciano, Cecina and Castelmartini.

The centre of Larciano Alto, wich was constructed/erected in the middle ages, is sorrounded by a city wall that dates back to before 800 and comprises three (arched) gates. On the top/peak the rock, most probably erected by the citizens, the folk of Pistoia after the takeover of the fortress of Larciano in 1226.

Its convenient position with control over the Valley of Nievole made Larciano in the middle ages a strategic point of the defence anlagen of Pistoia and to an important crossroads along the road crossing (quer to) the river Arno.

The fact that Larciano was located to the side of the mail road axises meant that the fortress was able to retain/conserve its original form and entirety of its with ancient atmosphere filled centre.

THE OIL AND WINEROAD OF THE MONTALBANO - THE HOME OF LEONARDO DA VINCI

This project is a cooperation between the councils of Montalbano (Serravalle Pistoiese, Monsummano Terme, Larciano, Quarrata, Lamporecchio, Vinci, Carmignano, Capraia and Limite, Cerreto Guidi) and the industry associations (Business of agricolture and country tourism, oil and wine producers, wine cellars and restaurants), all of whom are striving towards/campaining for the appreciation of agricultural products and the traditional, high quality restauration/gastronomia.

As so many of these business are located alongside the Medicea wine road af Carmignano, this road path lends itself to is ideally suited to becoming the backbone of the entire system of Montalbano: the roads leads through vineyards and olive groves (the best ones of Tuscany), past villas, vicarages and fortresses, and the trip the journey through the ancient road network across the ridge presents the same locations and countryside views whitch were once enjoyed by Leonardo da Vinci.
